Our Story

Stop talking, start innovating

Rob’s goal was to produce a luxurious but sustainable and biodegradable towel that would work better than a washable salon cotton towel, while also improving productivity and hygiene. It was important that the manufacture and supply of these towels were considered throughout the process to ensure that the entire life cycle had minimal environmental impact.

Some testing and some science

In 2010, after 18 months of testing and researching products with a local group of salon owners, the first Scrummi Towel was officially launched, a genuine biodegradable, disposable alternative to cotton towels for the hairdressing industry which reduces the environmental impact of salon towels by 90%.

UK made, eco-friendly towels and products

Sustainability and ethical practices have been central to us from the start. 70% of our products are made within the UK, which helps us build strong relationships with suppliers and keep full oversight of our supply chain. We verify the source of all of our products back through the fibre manufacturer and wood source to ensure our products do not contain wood from ancient forests or fibre from polluting factories.

We're a UK company, but we love the German word ‘Menschlichkeit’. With close ties to Germany and many German team members, it felt right to make it one of our core values. ‘Menschlichkeit’ means ‘humanity’—showing empathy, respect, and kindness. For us, good business starts with being good people. Above all, it reminds us that doing good business comes down to being good humans.
